Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Hotel Resort was awarded Best Family Hotel by the British newspaper The Telegraph, in the first edition of the Hotel Awards that awarded the best 50 hotels in the world and hotels that excel in specific areas.
Based on more than 10,000 hotel reviews conducted by specialized travel journalists, the Telegraph Hotel Awards aim to answer the question, as explained by Rachel Cranshaw, The Telegraph's hotel editor: "Which of these hotels can be considered the best of the best?" The 50 best hotels in the world were recently evaluated and ranked by experts from the British newspaper, which features an international panel of reviewers, mostly residents of the destinations they analyze. In addition to the Top 50, six individual special awards were also given to hotels that stood out in specific categories, such as Best for Sustainability, Best for Accessibility, Best New Hotel, Best Budget Hotel, Best Spa Hotel, and Best Family Hotel, this last one awarded to Martinhal Sagres.
Opened in 2010 near Sagres, a village in the western Algarve, Martinhal Sagres is the first of four luxury family hotels and resorts in Portugal under the Martinhal Resorts group, founded by Chitra and Roman Stern. With roots in Switzerland and Singapore, the couple, parents of four children all born in Portugal, have over 20 years of experience in hospitality. They have developed award-winning hotel and residential properties with a unique focus on family holidays. The opening of Martinhal Sagres established the group's reputation as one of Portugal's leading hotel developers.
The 5-star resort, located inone of the Algarve's most stunning coastal landscapes, includes 37 hotel rooms, a selection of uniquely designed hotel rooms and luxury villas, and a range of high-quality leisure, sports, and dining facilities. Between 2015 and 2023, the group opened new Martinhal hotels and resorts in the Algarve and Greater Lisbon, including the launch of the world's first luxury family hotel in a city center, in Lisbon's historic Chiado neighborhood in 2016, and more recently, in 2023, in Parque das Nações, Lisbon, with an innovative project combining hotel and branded residences: Martinhal Lisbon Oriente and Martinhal Residences.
